European, preferably.
I've nearly given up by now, I think i just don't get the concept of content for Train Simulator. When confronted with the fact that there is so much payware DLC for TS, people will usually respond by saying two things: First of all 'you don't need all the DLC, you pick what you're interested in', and right after that 'also, there's lots of freeware content, too!'
Now, every single freeware route on 3rd party sites I've encountered so far and found remotely interesting does need a lot of DLC. Want an Austrian route? Got to own Semmeringbahn and Dreiländereck ('Three Country Corner'). German routes? Don't even try without owning München - Augsburg.
I get why, obviously. People use assets from the other routes, so they can't be provided along with the free route. But it's a steep obstacle for someone new to Train Simulator, especially someone who doesn't plan on spending a lot of time with it.

  2. Scenic operations aplenty with Just Trains’ detailed Cornish Main Line route for Train Simulator! Train Simulator: Northeast Corridor: Washington DC - Baltimore Route Add-On Dec 22, 2020. Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor: It is a crown jewel of American railroading. And the bustling southern portion of the “NEC” – from Baltimore.
  3. Is there anyway we (meaning members of TS2015) can get free DLC? I keep asking myself that and I want some DLC that I want free. Do a Google search for Train Simulator DLC - amazing what you will find - UKTrainsim comes to mind - Of course you might have to learn how to add.rwp using the utility program - but a bit of knowledge and learning how the program works will add hundreds of hour of.

If you have content suitable for Open Rails or Microsoft Train Simulator already in place, then you can use the Open Rails program to operate those routes and drive those trains straight away. If not, then you will need to install some models bought from a vendor or free from the community before you can use Open Rails.
